A disc that embraces different styles moving between Latin jazz, classic echoes and music with contemporary features that leaves room for contamination. This is how Metamorfosi, the debut album of the mOs trio, released on April 10, 2020 by the Emme Record Label. A close-knit band, mastering different musical languages, composed by Giuseppe Santelli on the piano, main author of the songs, Renzo Genovese on electric bass and Simone Ritacca on drums. A project that well represents the synthesis of the musical paths of three cohesive musicians who together have generated a boldly undefined style, opening the way to metamorphosis and contamination. It is no coincidence that the songs range between different musical styles, always maintaining a great melodic sense and particular attention to the composition itself. The inspiration of the single is always at the service of the band and the interplay between the musicians is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the mOs trio. In this way the languages merge between Latin atmospheres, dreamlike music sometimes with oriental features, and a contemporary jazz that nevertheless always draws from the classical tradition. The latter is undoubtedly one of the hallmarks of a band that combines past and present in a jazz that perfectly embraces the concept of "continuous change".
Among the main tracks on this disc, the title track Metamorfosi stands out, which opens with just one drum kit and then gives life to an intense and melancholic melody with classic features. A composition that recalls the shape of the classic Rondo, with an ever-changing episode and total cohesion between the instruments: undoubtedly the song that fully summarizes the soul of the band. Nostalgia is a purely Latin-jazz song, in which the composer Giuseppe Santelli embraces the style of the well-known pianist Michel Camilo. It presents typical characteristics of the Latin world such as the tumbao on the electric bass, the clave dos-tres on the drums and the montuno on the piano. The way back is an articulated piece, which alternates melodic moments with more intense rhythms, translating the meaning contained in the title itself into music, or the desire to return home hampered by moments of tension. Smile, on the other hand, is a composition written with the smile of a person close to the author who divides it into two parts: the first part, also in Latin style, opens the way for a second movement in which rhythmic echoes linked to the music of the years emerge 80. All adapted according to the style of a band that, embracing multiple styles, never loses sight of the melodic sense and the ability to reinvent itself.
