Greyboy Allstars drummer Zak Najor leads a stellar band that features the golden-voiced Gregory Porter, jazz/funk saxophonist Karl Denson and the recently deceased legendary soul-jazz guitarist Melvin Sparks. 'Time To Do Your Thing' is a set of modern rare-groove, soul jazz tunes - timeless originals with incredibly funky, infectious grooves.

The fourteen pieces on 'Time To Do Your Thing' are almost all self-composed and penned by Zak Najor, Justin Prizant, Karl Denson and Gregory Porter. Produced over several years they present the inspired vision of jazz-infected soul and funk that Zbonics boss Zak Najor is famous for as drummer with the Greyboy Allstars and rhythm generator for Fred Wesley, Melvin Sparks, George Porter, John Scofield, Reuben Wilson and many more.

The album opens with the sophisticated and relaxed "Soul Good", an instrumental which features saxophonist Denson and guitarist Sparks. Gregory Porter contributes stunning, soulful vocals to "She Danced Across the Floor", "Nowhere to Run", "She's Gone", "Just in Time" and the autobiographical "Issues of Life". "Wash Cloth" is a monster groover, as is the title track that was composed by saxophonist Eddie Harris and his wife and is the only non-original on the album.

Personnel: Zak Najor (drums), Gregory Porter (vocals), Karl Denson (saxophone, flute), Melvin Sparks (guitar), George Lee (bass), Robert Walter (keyboards, synths), Chris Littlefield (trumpet), Charles Zeitler (alto saxophone), Andy Geib (trombone) and others
