AllMusic Review by Scott Yanow
This double LP, whose contents have since been reissued on two separate CDs, combines together two of tenor-saxophonist Stan Getz's finest albums of his post-bossa nova period. Getz and pianist Bill Evans (along with drummer Elvin Jones and either Ron Carter or Richard Davis on bass) perform lyrical versions of five standards (including "But Beautiful" and "My Heart Stood Still") along with Evans's "Funkallero." The second half of this set has Getz in a quartet with pianist Chick Corea, bassist Ron Carter and drummer Grady Tate. The music is quite a bit more modern, particularly Corea's two originals "Litha" and "Windows." In both cases the cool-toned tenor is in inspired form, making this music highly recommended in one form or another.
