With "Chasin' Tail" Anni quite simply takes her blues to a whole new level. Anni & her band really step up to the plate with their infectious brand of blues rock with this album; from the SRV inspired opening "Amazon" through to their astounding take of Hendrix's "Voodoo Chile" (it simply has to be the closing track of the CD, as there can be no encore that can follow this!) Anni (bass & vocals), Sam Buckley (guitar) & Reuben Alexander (drums) form a superb power trio that are second to none & take the listener on musical journey that I personally wish would have never stopped!
Reuben Alexander lays down a cool, steady groove with splashes of flash. Sam Buckley is simply astounding with his guitar virtuosity...this fellow is world class and can leave any blues guitarist either inspired or depressed! (how the hell does he play like that?!) Anni Piper struts her stuff out front of the band and delivers vocal performances that astound me - I fell in love with Anni's voice when I first heard it, but she has pushed the envelope with this album and shows us that she has raw power & aggression that was previously unrealized. Her bass playing follows this sentiment and she delivers some inspired bottom end grooves & displays superb chops (check out "Highway Time" & "Dreamcatcher"!)
If you haven't heard of Anni Piper then you've been missing out.... Do yourself a favour and join the party - you wont regret it! ~Mitch Richards
