Christian Münchinger is one of Switzerland's most talented tenor saxophonists and his playing and compositional skills have been recognized on both side of the Atlantic. In addition to awards from such prestigious organizations as the IAJE in New York and the Chrysler Foundation in Montreux, established musicians such as Joe Lovano, Clark Terry, and fellow countryman, Franco Ambrosetti are just a few of the names to have acknowledged his talent. The 41 year old is a graduate of the Jazz College of Zurich, where he studied under saxophonist Andy Scherrer, Christian's favoured style is reflective of Dextor Gordon, early John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, and Herbie Hancock. 'The Glance' is his second album for TCB and features all original composition ranging from hard bop, through to a ballad and a beguiling samba. With Christoph Stiefel on piano, Andrea Zitz on bass and Pius Baschnagel on drums, Christian is surrounded by some of the best musicians Europe has to offer.
