The relaxed approach that Freddie took with is First Light album is evident in Times Are Changing. Especially is this so with the slightly melancholy and nicely paced Corazon Amplio, a piece that Freddie tenderly imbues with as much heart as the person for whom it is dedicated. The entire first side is intriguing because Freddie's departure from classic and fusion jazz makes way for his collaborative exploration of depth in music, most noticable in the mysterious song entitled, "Was She Really There." Commenting on his break-through album, First Light, Freddie said he, "...didn't have to blow as hard," and the same applies to Times Are Changing. Freddie's effortless style evokes feelings and sounds of soft coastal breezes. Really, one can play both sides of this album and experience a myriad of rhythmic sensations through the music, but my favorite remains the last cut on the A side, Corazon Amplio.
