This sophomore release from Alex Pangman brings back to the fore the (many forgotten) songs of the 1920s, 30s and 40s. For this outing, the songstress invites cornetist Peter Ecklund into the studio as part of her western swing aggregation, while the discs other sessions see the return of the late Dick Sudhalter on trumpet and the late Jeff Healey on guitar, among others. A jazz manouche group features an original song by Pangman written for the film “TORSO”, which saw her nominated for two Canadian National Jazz Awards. Inspired by the material of the artists she found on 78 rpms such as the Light Crust Doughboys, Tempo King, The Three Peppers and Russ Columbo, here Pangman’s own identity is strongly felt, with a voice that makes the music of the past “captivatingly present.”
