Mark Guiliana, 33 year old composer from New Jersey released his third solo album “A Form of Truth”, exclusively on bandcamp two days ago; we took 48 hours to digest it…
Mark is known for his playing with Brad Mehldau, Tigran Hamasyan and Now VS Now. Since his debut in 2003 as a sideman for Avishai Cohen, he has been considered one of the best drummers of the decade, but it wasn’t until 2006 when he founded Heernt and Beat Music that the international jazz scene put him on their radar.
This album has been in the works for the past few years. Listener’s will find, Guiliana’s sense of rhythm not just mathematically advanced but fresh and easy for anyone to listen to. Is this Jazz? Who cares… It’s improvised music, it’s contemporary, it’s hip hop, it’s completely human, and it challenges electronic music in a whole different level.
Our favorite tracks in this album are That Girl in Stockholm, a song in 11/8 with an awesome bass solo by Tim Lefebvre; and A Form of Truth, the funkiest song in the record, lets the title speak for itself.
