For thirty years (from 1964-1994) Georg Ratzinger, the brother of today's Pope, shaped the world-famous boys' choir of the Regensburger Domspatzen. One might ask: what a short time given the choir's tradition of more than a thousand years? But then you have to keep in mind that for centuries the main task of the singing boys was almost exclusively devoted to sacred music. But also and especially Georg Ratzinger has significantly expanded this repertoire and has also taken on the secular vocal works of great masters of music history with his choir. Our compilation would like to appreciate this area of Ratzinger's work. Starting with important composers of early music such as Hans Leo Hassler or Orlando di Lasso, the selection goes through the epochs of music development, touches on Baroque (Lully), Classical (Mozart) and shows some great choral music masters of the 19th century (Schubert, Brahms, Mendelssohn) Bartholdy, Rheinberger) and ends with a selection block of the most beautiful folk songs in highly sophisticated arrangements.
