Personnel: Erin Bode (vocals); Adam Rogers (acoustic guitar, electric guitar); Meg Okura (violin); Sydney Rodway (tenor saxophone); Bruce Barth (piano, Fender Rhodes piano); Adam Maness (piano); Steve Nelson (vibraphone); Larry Grenadier (bass instrument); Montez Coleman (drums); Jerry Barnes (background vocals).
Bode now releases her MAXJAZZ debut, Don’t Take Your Time, titled for the memorable song she co-wrote. The CD is reflective of her broad range of musical tastes – three jazz standards, songs by Cy Coleman and Irving Berlin, an American traditional, a tune from Lennon & McCartney, one from Bob Dylan, another from Stevie Wonder and of course, her calling card, Cyndi Lauper’s "Time After Time", this time sung with backup vocalist, Jerry Barnes, who performs often with Roberta Flack. In addition, she sings "Junior and Julie", which calls to mind Helen Merrill and "You", which one could imagine Norah Jones performing. That is how versatile Bode is.
On Don’t Take Your Time, Bode communicates with some impressive musicians: Bruce Barth on piano and Fender Rhodes; Larry Grenadier on bass; Adam Rogers on electric and acoustic guitar; Steve Nelson on vibes and Montez Coleman on drums. Guests include Meg Okura on violin, Adam Maness on piano, Sydney Rodway on tenor saxophone and Jerry Barnes on background vocals. Produced by Barth, the CD is named for the folk and country-tinged song, which Bode arranged and wrote with Adam Maness.
