Buddy Whittington is the current incumbent in the guitarist slot of the legendary Bluesbreakers. It's a position he's occupied since the departure of Coco Montoya in '93. In typical style, Buddy's band The Sidemen, who had been making waves on the local Texas scene, where given the support slot to the visiting John Mayall in '91. John was impressed by Buddy, so much so that when Coco quit, he made one phone call to Texas. As well as being an exceptional guitarist Buddy is also a fine singer and a excellent writer. The opener "Young & Dumb" sets pulses racing with some fantastic slide guitar and wry lyrics including the gem "Made Milwaukie famous, gave me a headache." It's a sign of things to come as the lyrics generally are a cut above average and the guitar playing is off the scale. The punning title of "Stevie Rave On" actually proves to be a fitting tribute to the late great fellow Texan and "Second Banana" is a laugh out loud killer. The absolute business. Tracks: Young & Dumb / Pay The Band / Minor Blues / Stevie Rave On / Second Banana / Greenwood / Can't Be Good For Me / Romance Classified / Sure Got Cold After The Rain Fell / Every Goodbye Ain't Gone.
