Miles Donahue - Truckin' (2014)

A "Jazz treasure" says Grammy award winning Jazz critic Bob Blumenthal. Miles is amazingly edept on both saxophone and trumpet. Jerry Bergonzi said, “Miles Donahue is one of my favorite cats because he plays so unique and fresh. Plus the thing of trumpet and sax. To this day I’ve never heard anyone play trumpet and tenor so balanced.” Miles's compositions are intricate yet approachable to the listener. Miles continues to surround himself by the highest caliber musicians. The ensemble cast on this release include Jerry Bergonzi, Mike Stern, Terri Lyne Carrington, Ralph Peterson, Tamir Shmerling, Fred Hersch, and Alain Mallet. Truckin' is a compelling depiction of various styles within the genre. The alternating instrumentation has created multiple albums within the album. From rocking out with Mike Stern and culminating with Emma's Song played beautifully by Fred Hersch on piano.
