Talented and inexhaustible, Luso-Cape Verdean singer/songwriter, Carmen Souza, releases a Duo CD, "London acoustic set" in November 2011, featuring Theo Pas'cal and, German painter, Jrgen Born on the CD artwork.
"London acoustic set " is certainly a special way to celebrate a cycle of 10 years of continuous work with Theo Pas'cal: mentor, friend, producer, road and composition companion.
Is a unique register of one of her rare concerts in Duo recorded in November 2010, at Green Note, the prestigious World Music Club in London. Also includes 2 songs recorded at the Liverpool Philharmonic hall in 2010.
This raw performance, is truly faithful to the birth of each song, putting the spotlight on Carmen Souza's unique, expressive and captivating voice and also her complicity with the great musician and composer, Theo Pas'cal, in a journey where both are able to create their own musical language and form of expression.
All the songs presented here were originally composed as a duo based on the voice, bass and guitar.
Carmen Souza, plays acoustic guitar and Theo Pas'cal divides himself between the acoustic bass and percussion.
"Here we go back to the beginning of our composition process where the songs appear naked but already soulful in its spirit…we felt the need to listen and play our songs in it's first form." Carmen Souza says.
Combining the influence of her Cape Verdean roots, with her other passion, jazz, this album includes 12 live new interpretations of songs previously included on her latest's CDs: Ess nha Cape Verde (2005), Truth (2008), Protegid (2010).
Besides the original repertoire we can find versions of "Sous le ciel de Paris" immortalized by the voice of Edith Piaf, "Sodade" and "Song for my father".
Carmen Souza writes yet another direction on the history of Cape Verdean music: her very own new Cape Verdean Singer/Songwriter style never before explored in this way, on record, by a women composer in the Cape Verdean music.
