Notes from Winston Choi: TETRACHROMATIC MUSINGS refers to the concept that there are many more colors that exist than what the average human eye can perceive. One particular pitch has unlimited color possibilities, since perception and context can give us a limitless palette to draw upon.

Notes from George Flynn: AMERICAN ICON, a piano solo, dedicated to my long time good friend and supporter, Kenneth Derus, employs a variety of extended and enhanced sonorities and textures to create a rough and volatile fabric of frequently unconventional and even coarse piano sounds in a predominantly collage-like form.

Notes from George Flynn: As its title suggests, MEDITATIVE FANTASY is meant to be primarily meditative, although it contains a variety of textures and assertions, and there are some passages of energetic activity. The piece should be understood as continuous, without obvious breaks, and is meant to suggest a satisfying, peaceful continuity.

GEORGE FLYNN (b. 1937) has performed and organized concerts of new music in a variety of New York City and Chicago venues.
He has composed over 200 works in all media, and has recorded for Turnabout, ATCO, Finnadar, Titanic, Wounded Bird and Southport labels. Recordings include his own music as well as works by John Cage, Charles Ives, Olivier Messiaen and Jan Akkerman (a member of the Dutch group Focus). Flynn s works frequently reflect extra-musical interests, including images of this country and the Vietnam experience. His chamber duos consider human relationships; and several piano solos seek to extend the limits of gestural, technical and poetic elements.
Flynn received his academic degrees from Columbia University, New York City, and taught at Columbia and Lehmann College (CUNY) as well as DePaul University (Chicago). As a pianist Flynn has performed and recorded new music for many years in the US and Europe.

Duo Diorama is Chinese violinist MingHuan Xu and Canadian pianist Winston Choi, who perform music ranging from standard works to the avant-garde.
Having commissioned and premiered over 30 works in the last few years, Duo Diorama is a supporter of the music of living composers.
Its many projects include performing multi-disciplinary works involving electronic media. By juxtaposing their performances with colorful commentary, Duo Diorama s unique performances emphasize the relevance and vivacity of classical music.
