Orchestra of the National Gugak Centre of Korea - Corée: Jongmyo Jeryeak (Musique rituelle pour les ancêtres royaux) (2014)

Le Jongmyo Jeryeak désigne un ensemble de danses, musiques et chants associé au sanctuaire de Jongmyo : depuis environ 600 ans, cette musique rituelle, solennelle et majestueuse (tambours, gongs, cloches, carillons, cithares, vièles, hautbois et flûtes) s’élève en l’honneur des ancêtres royaux de la dynastie Joseon (1392-1919).
La Corée, possède une histoire unique de plus de cinq mil-lénaires ; malgré de nombreuses influences réciproques avec ses voisins la Chine et le Japon, elle a développé des arts riches et originaux.
Durant l’époque de Joseon, ces rituels ancestraux avaient lieu cinq fois au cours de l’année : à chaque saison puis à la fin de l’année. Mais aujourd’hui, le rituel, organisé par les descendants de la dynastie, ne se déroule plus qu’une fois par an, le premier dimanche du mois de mai.

Le sanctuaire de Jongmyo (au cœur de la capitale sud-coréenne, Séoul) a été désigné comme patrimoine culturel mondial de l’UNESCO en 1994 et le Jongmyo Jeryeak a été reconnu comme un Chef-d’Œuvre du Patrimoine Oral et Immatériel de l’Humanité par la même organisation en 2001.

The Jongmyo Jeryeak refers to a combination of vocal and instrumental music, and dances, performed once a year at the Jongmyo royal shrine: for about 600 years, this solemn and majestic ritual music –played on drums, gongs, bells, chimes, zithers, fiddles, oboes and flutes– have been performed in honour of the royal ancestors of the Joseon dy-nasty.
