Ramón Ortega Quero, Peter Kofler, Tamar Inbar, Luise Buchberger, Peter Kofler - JS Bach: New Oboe Sonatas (2015)

Ramón Ortega Quero is an exceptional musician, even when judged by the highest standards. He combines dazzling technical and musical expertise with a seductively infectious love of music-making, and once he is on stage the audience is soon in his thrall.

Born in Granada, the oboist has come far to date – he was a 'Rising Star' and took first prize at the ARD Competition and can lay claim to two ECHO Klassik awards already. He is solo oboist with the Symphony Orchestra of Bavarian Radio and is pursuing a parallel international career as a sought-after soloist and chamber musician.

This spring sees his debut with Berlin Classics in oboe sonatas by Johann Sebastian Bach. A Bach oboe sonata? Strictly speaking, there is no such thing. That is why oboists customarily resort to Bach's flute sonatas, which are readily adaptable for the oboe. Ramón Ortega Quero, however, was not content with that. Combing Bach's chamber music for other suitable works, he found what he was looking for, and can now introduce us to a number of pieces, arranged where necessary, that are new to his instrument.

He is ably supported on this recording by Luise Buchberger on the Baroque cello and Peter Kofler at the harpsichord, forming an ensemble that brings out the full vitality of his performance. On the Trio Sonata BWV1039 he is joined by his wife Tamar Inbar on a second oboe – in marital harmony!
