Victor Feldman And The Generation Band - The Best Of (1989)

A major pianist, vibraphonist, and drummer-percussionist, Victor Feldman gradually switched from straight-ahead jazz to studio work during the 1960s. The Generation Band was Feldman's main vehicle on his solo records from his final decade. The music performed by that group was generally played by top studio musicians, with equal elements of jazz and pop, and could be both melodic and lightweight. This particular collection draws its 15 songs from six of the Generation Band's albums. Despite covering a nine-year period, and varying its personnel along the way, the basic style of the band remains the same. Most of the performances on this set are merely attractive background music, lightly grooving but rarely substantial or catchy enough to be memorable.~Scott Yanow
