Ludovico Ariosto's monumental verse epic Orlando furioso, published in 1516, about the knight Roland, driven mad by a disappointed love for the Chinese princess Angelica, serves the entire range of human emotions with its interwoven adventures. In the baroque era, the successful and widely known epic became the source of inspiration for numerous operas. The Italian countertenor Filippo Mineccia has put together a varied programme with arias from operas by Steffani, Vivaldi, Porpora, Handel and Wagenseil, among others, around the figure of the furious Roland, in which he brilliantly presents all facets of his voice in a creative manner.
