An all-star album that celebrates swinging jazz from Monk to Duke - featuring Wynton Marsalis!
Joe Farnsworth has been the drummer of choice for some of the biggest names in jazz for more than a quarter of a century. With "Time to Swing" he delivers a masterpiece of his own that defines his career - with pianist and NEA jazz master Kenny Barron, bassist Peter Washington and last but not least trumpeter Wynton Marsalis
Farnsworth's musical vision has evolved over years of unparalleled performances and recordings with artists such as George Coleman, Benny Golson, Pharoah Sanders, Curtis Fuller, Horace Silver, Diana Krall and, of course, Wynton Marsalis. Wynton is therefore also the "special guest" on the first four tracks of "Time to Swing" and the combination of his trumpet and Farnsworth's cymbal beat is simply great jazz music
The first half ends with a tour-de-force drum solo dedicated to the recently deceased Jimmy Cobb, followed by a second half of brilliant piano trio jazz; Farnsworth is something of a specialist in piano trios, having worked in the classic trios of Cedar Walton, Hank Jones, McCoy Tyner and Harold Mabern, among others.
Kenny Barron (p)
Peter Washington (b)
Joe Farnsworth (ds)
Wynton Marsalis (tp, tracks 1~4)
