Almost ten years ago, the musician from A Coruña, Richi Casás, then a saxophone student at the Conservatorio Superior, came across a photograph he did not know of his grandmother Rosa. It was not just any portrait: it appeared on the cover of one of the seven volumes edited by the Barrié Foundation of the Galician Popular Songbook collected and arranged by Dorothé Schubarth and Antón Santamarina. Casás was also unaware that his grandmother, like his aunt Adolfina, had been one of the informants during fieldwork in the 1970s and 1980s.
That revelation reoriented the formation of the musician, who reinterpreted those jazz pieces for his end-of-career work, naming it Fuliada na Vila, for A Vila da Igrexa, in Cerceda, where Rosa and Adolfina lived and in whose stop, today inactive, one day in 1980 Dorothé Schubarth came looking for the singers they had told her about. And a few meters away is the tunnel where Casas rehearses, fascinated by the sound of the vault and the history that links his family with the Swiss musicologist.
