Following the lead of some of his peers, Myron Walden decided to bypass the traditional artist protocol of the recording industry and start his own label, Demi Sound Records. The result was a deluge of music during a two-year span. What We Share is the second part of Walden's In This World series. All musicians return (drummers Brian Blade and Kendrick Scott, keyboardist David Bryant, guitarist Mike Moreno). However, although the music (all penned by Walden) is still less aggressive than his previous releases, it's a discernibly more energetic set than To Feel, which is not to say the music is necessarily more worthy. There's a contemporary feel that courses through the album; it chills. As his sixth album in little more than a year, What We Share makes Walden the hardest, uh, writing man in jazz music. That his albums have been nothing less than solid is a tribute to his well of creativity.
