Composer KENNETH LAMPL says of the score to 2067, “It’s very rare that you get a chance for your score to be right out front of the film. It’s 110 minutes of continuous score … It allowed us to create a 110-minute symphony.
“It’s a unique project because Seth is across a lot more things than a lot of directors are. He’s a practitioner, he’s a director, he knows cinematography, he knows how VFX goes, and generally he has his hands in a lot more things than a lot of directors do.”
Director SETH LARNEY adds: “What we’ve really tried to do is have that soundscape be this one flowing story that really is connected to the drama of the film. Ken has been really incredible at that: scoring the level of the drama, scoring the themes, scoring the subtext of the film, having those undercurrents come through into the music … Ken is one of the most positive, creative people that I have ever met in my entire life. Kirsten has been an incredible part of our process, she’s such an amazing collaborator for Ken. For me it’s like you’re getting two incredible composers.”
ABOUT 2067
2067: Earth is on the verge of collapse. After years of doing too little to reverse climate change, plant life is extinct and there is a dramatic reduction in available oxygen. The survival of humanity is threatened by a fatal “oxygen sickness” – as manufactured oxygen, the only source of breathable air, is making millions sick. With no cure in sight, humanity looks to the future, in the hope that people are still alive and have a solution to the O2 crisis. Chronicorp, the world’s leading supplier of synthetic oxygen, has spearheaded this project, building a quantum time machine that pings the future in search of a connection with their descendants. They receive a response: a message from 400 years in the future that simply reads, “Send Ethan Whyte”. Unwittingly, Ethan, a reclusive utility worker, barrels into the future as humanity and his sick wife’s last hope. He arrives in a new world ... completely alone. As he draws closer to the truth and uncovers an unthinkable conspiracy, he is faced with the ultimate question: who sent the message? And is there a way to save humanity and the woman he loves?
“I wanted to make a movie that suggests that these questions about the human experience are important, and wrap them up in a fun, epic, sci-fi adventure, like the ones that moved me so much as a kid. The kinds of genre films that infused entertainment with big questions – ones that we take our own personal meaning from. 2067 is about the idea that, even though we may not have proof that our small, selfless acts affect change in the world, if we truly believe in ourselves and in the people around us, if we believe that it is never too late, then we can do anything.” – Seth Larney
KENNETH LAMPL received his D.M.A. in composition from the Juilliard School of Music and was a student of John Williams. His first international recognition came with the winning of the Prix Ravel in composition at the American Conservatory in Fontainebleau, France. Many awards soon followed including the Joseph H. Bearns Prize from Columbia University, nine ASCAP Concert Music Awards, three New Jersey State Council for the Arts Fellowships, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra Awards to Young Composers, three ASCAP Awards to Young Composers, the ASCAP Raymond Hubble Fellowship, the Gretchanov Memorial Prize in Composition from the Juilliard School and fellowships from the foundations of Henry Mancini, George Gershwin, and Richard Rodgers.
As a composer of film music Kenneth Lampl has scored over 90 films including: Frontera (starring Ed Harris and Eva Longoria), 35 & Ticking (starring Kevin Hart and Nicole Ari-Parker), Ninja’s Creed (starring Pat Morita and Eric Roberts), Kandisha (starring David Carradine and Hiam Abbas) and Winter of Frozen Dreams (starring Thora Birch and Keith Carradine). Lampl also composed music for Pokemon The First Movie: Mewtwo vs Mew, Pokemon: Mewtwo Returns, as well as music for the television series Born Again Virgin and Saints and Sinners.
Lampl is also known as an orchestral composer, arranger and conductor. He has written orchestral arrangement for the iconic American rock band Foreigner, whose latest record hit #1 on Billboard Magazine Classical Charts for seven weeks, and he conducted the Australian tour. He also composed orchestral music for the band Evanescence for their Synthesis tour performing with the Sydney, Melbourne and Queensland Symphonies. He frequently collaborates with composer/pianist Kirsten Axelholm.
KIRSTEN AXELHOLM studied piano and pedagogy at the Danish National Academy of Music. Axelholm was mentored by prominent piano professor Jørgen Hald Nielsen and Katrine Gislinge, who has established herself as one of Scandinavia’s most significant pianists. Axelholm is a noted lecturer in music pedagogy and composition and has given master classes at Shanghai University, Shanghai Conservatory, the Animation Workshop and Bath Spa University. She frequently collaborates with Kenneth Lampl on a wide variety of projects ranging from film and choral music to classical concert music.
