Until the 18th c. the boundaries between improvisation and interpretation were fluid. Soloists were able to create the musical material out of the intermediate and transitional parts of a composition freely, off the cuff. On Fantasia Baroque, Aleksandra and Alexander Grychtolik play the music in their own way, based partly on figured bass and partly on harmonic structures. Mr. and Ms. Grychtolik are skilled practitioners of virtuosic keyboard music of the 17th-18th c. and the integration of improvisational elements within these works in recordings and concert performances.
