Michael Rayher and Davide Zaccaria's compositions touch a fine artistic line: neither do they wallow in self-contented aesthetics resembling innovative sounds or in mere virtuosic instrumental application, nor is there a decline to trivial melodic temptations. No, the pieces of Zaccaria and Rayher are of melodic depht and - with all virtuosic dispositions of historic and avant-garde forms - remain clear and forcible. The responce is to archaic themes: death (Dedicato), war (24.03.1999), sorrow and time. The dialogue between cello and piano allows the listener space. One takes on an imaginative third voice carried and freed by a nearly classical working of the themes.
