Hot Life is the debut EP of the traditional jazz and swing sextet TARA & THE JAZZ BOMBS, led by the Welsh Tara Lowe.
Recorded during February 2020 at Infinity Studios after a successful crowdfunding campaign, they are accompanied by Tara Lowe (voice and musical direction) on this journey through the rhythm of old New Orleans, musicians of great prestige and recognized trajectory in the jazz scene Spanish: Norman Hogue (trombone), David Herrington (trumpet and cornet), Hector Oliveira (double bass), Daniel Cabrera (banjo and jazz guitar) and Andrés Freites (washboard and drums). In her first studio work, specialists in American RnB and traditional jazz such as Kike Jambalaya on piano or Daniele Grammauta on tenor saxophone also collaborate.
Hot Life, a title that refers to the “hot” sound of early jazz - an intense, frenetic and emotionally charged jazz - is a reinterpretation of six songs popularized by great American artists of the first decades of the 20th century, such as Louis Armstrong, Chick Webb, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, the Boswell Sisters or the Mills Brothers. This work explores the evolution of jazz from its mestizo origins in New Orleans, until its transition to swing in the 1930s, seeking to combine the explosive beauty of the former with the elegance of the latter. The result is an unapologetic neo-traditional jazz proposal, in which, respecting the tradition of the style, it is possible to hear from nods to classical music in solos, to vocal performances inspired by Tom Waits.
The six songs that make up this album, written almost a century ago, speak of the same vital experiences and emotions that continue to move and stir us today: vices, love, nostalgia, mourning, the search for identity ... , with their first EP, TARA & THE JAZZ BOMBS bring a close, warm, accessible jazz, more to feel than to think!
