Biography Edward Upton's recordings as DMX Krew placed him at the forefront of the '90s electro revival, and established him as one of the chief architects of the Rephlex label's "braindance" sound. His tracks paid tribute to '80s electro pioneers such as Man Parrish and Afrika Bambaataa as well as new romantic synth pop groups like Vince Clarke-era Depeche Mode, not to mention the inescapable influence of Kraftwerk. His songs were always primed for breakdancing, and could be quite cheeky or playful, but they often contained an undercurrent of fear and isolation, as evidenced by songs like "I'm All Alone" and "The Glass Room." Over time, his tracks drifted away from party-centric themes, abandoning vocals and embracing a more cerebral sound in line with Detroit electro acts like Dopplereffekt. Nevertheless, he continued emulating his disco, electro-funk, and rave influences with releases under at least a dozen additional pseudonyms, including Computor Rockers, David Michael Cross, Asylum Seekers, and others.
