All of Beethoven’s extraordinary works for piano and cello are displayed on this recording featuring Danish cellist Toke Møldrup and Israeli pianist Yaron Kohlberg on their second album together. The sonatas Op. 5, 69 and 102 spread out perfectly over the composer’s three main periods: the early, the middle and the late or the “mad” period. In between these sharp corners stand the three sets of virtuosic variations as almost commenting on the development in Beethoven’s music.
