Marcello Picchioni, class 79’, began playing the piano at the age of 6 years pushed by some family members. Initiated to classical studies, he soon left the conservatory to devote himself as a self-taught to Blues, Soul and Funk, colors and shades that will always remain present in his improvisational language.
An eclectic and curious, and is soon attracted to the study of the language of jazz by listening to pianists such as Oscar Peterson, Michel Petrucciani, Monty Alexander, Herbie Hancock, Dado Moroni, Andrea Pozza, beginning to play in various formations of jazz of his hometown, Genoa.
In 2008, thanks to his creativity and “sense of swing” became the pianist of the “Big Borgo Band” conducted by Maestro Claudio Capurro and his experiences live and multiply, until it is on the stage of some of the important Jazz Festivals such as national Sorrento Jazz, Alassio Jazz, Villa Celimontana Jazz, Nerves, Jazz, Tuscia in Jazz, Roma Jazz festival – Auditorium PdM – Serravalle Jazz, Laigueglia Jazz Festival, Torino Jazz Festival, Andora Jazz festival, and others, within groups ranging from trio to big band.
In 2012, that moved as a base in Turin, he graduated in Jazz Composition (110 cum laude) at the Conservatory “G. Verdi” under the guidance of the Masters Dado Moroni, Furio Di Castri, Emanuele Cisi, Giampaolo Casati, with an original composition in 5 acts inspired by the ancient poem “Gilgamesh”, opening the door as a performer and teacher of modern piano, even in the land of savoy, where it has found fertile ground to multiply his experiences, collaborating with virtually all the jazz musicians in turin, in different formations.
Always attentive to new musical trends, in addition to concert activity he currently deals with Electronic Music (Indie-Pop, New-Soul, Jazztronica) carrying out Producer activities in the Turin studio he founded (Quamen Studio) deepening the most modern techniques of sound synthesis, sound-design, mixing & mastering. In 2019, he collaborates as arranger on the album of the Turin artist Willie Peyote, "Iodegradabile “(Universal, 2019) and composes the soundtrack for the film” Lucus a Lucendo: a propo Di Carlo Levi" (Caucaso, 2019) together with bassist Luca Romeo.
With the intention of promoting live music and bringing the public closer to jazz, over the years he has also been artistic director for the season concerts of some clubs (Nostradamus pub, One Thousand rist. Wine , n.6, The Uffizi, and other collaborations), while in October 2019, has organized the first Italian tour of pianist/producer, Julian Pollack (Los Angeles, USA), becoming the general manager for the uk and offering some of his masterclasses with Lenny “the Ox” Reece (drum), and Antoine Katz (bass), enjoying considerable success among fans of New-Soul and Hip-Hop to Jazz.
