Recorded live in Paris, 1965.
Contrary to Recall's title, Impressions of Paris was not completely recorded there. Montgomery's Live in Europe features some of the material here, with the rest coming from two other selections, including a live date in Berkeley in 1965 erroneously titled Full House -- not the Riverside title. Questions of origin aside, this double-disc set is prime Wes Montgomery, collecting long portraits of his improvisational style -- disc two features long bop and hard bop readings of "Full House," "Twisted Blues," and a great medley of "Blue 'n' Boogie" and "West Coast Blues." The opening set also contains a 12-and-a-half-minute version of "Mr. Walker." Yes, there is a distinct lack of data here, but for the price, the music is more than worth it.~Thom Jurek
