Nidaros Brass Band was founded in 2003, by some brass band enthusiasts in Trondheim who shared a strong desire to play in a brass brand whose activity level was compatible with a busy lifestyle. By having rehearsals only every other Sunday, in addition to challenging and entertaining concerts, we have managed to maintain a capable and stable membership.
We have, the whole time, been committed to presenting music from different genres as well as possible to our audiences and we always showcase our own soloists in our concerts. We do not contest, and function purely as a concert band. The band has a good reputation as a concert band, with a lot of humour, joy of playing and high standard of musical performance.
Since 2008 we have put on a number of great concerts in Trondheim featuring well known soloists, both vocalists and instrumentalists. From UK we have played with Trevor Groom, Andrew Justice, Phillip McCann, Bob Childs and the great Steven Mead! All to great inspiration for the band members.
Of the highlights, we can mention the concert Trondhjemsnatt which has been played for a full church almost every year since 2008, Domen in collaboration with Nidaros Cathedral Boys Choir and Jan Magne Førde (2013), Variasjoner (Variations) together with the chamber choir A Cappellissimo (2014) and Lys (Light) in Nidaros Cathedral with world famous choir Cantus, and Frode Fjellheim (2015).
The band has also made two UK tours, in 2011 and 2014, which have been great experiences and an inspiration for the members. Another UK tour is being planned for 2017, this time to Manchester/Liverpool area (more info below).
Equally important to playing large scale concerts and touring the home of the brass band, is for the band to perform concerts locally and in the Trondheim region, sometimes also with school bands.
