The Solarflares - Psychedelic Tantrum (1999)

This is the hard to find first Solar Flares album, and one that sees Graham Day and cohorts continue their journey on a one-way, fuzzed up 60s trip into the unknown. Most of the songs here are absolute garage rock stompers, as Mr Day's guitar weaves aggressive power blasts over his soulful voice. Tracks like 'Medway' and Out of Our Minds' positively explode with energy as guitar riff follows feedback in a race to the top. Of course, some of the tracks are slower and more reflective, with the odd instrumental as well - as one comes to expect from an ex-Prisoner. To be honest, old Prisoners fans will know what to expect from this but the odd youngster - anyone under 40 - will also find this an educational experience.
