Chicago Twenty 1 is a very well made album. there is a cloud of discontent that falls upon this album among many critics and fans as well. the fact is that Twenty 1 is a step in a different direction than the original Chicago had taken. Of course we all know that Chicago has changed many times. My opinion is that Twenty 1 is the culmination of both 18 and 19. both of those albums seem to be recieved better however aside from their memorable singles, those albums are not as strong. I find that this album has many more memorable songs on it.Critics bash this album because it is not the Chicago of 1969. now CTA is one of the greatest (and one of my top 3) albums of all time. however how many times do you expect a band to reinvent the wheel? Chicago did not go down hill after any album they simply changed. Chicago VI, VIII, are not my favorites but critics and other fans seem to overlook what happens with bands, sometimes you hit gold sometimes you dont. I think if you are a chicago fan of the 1980s you will truly enjoy this album. if you like ballads and 80s love songs then this is a perfect album. the highlight for me is Holdin' On. and i only hope they remaster this one along with 18 and 19. because the demo of Holdin' On with Tamara Champlin is absolutely fabulous. So please if you are interested in this album give it a listen. dont let negative press change your mind before you listen. I must say Chicago is the only band i have come across where the fans are so divided on every album and that is a true american band. Democracy and the ability to agree and disagree. Chicago you guys are true blue
