PIANO SOUNDS (1983-2020) is a monographic CD that includes the complete piano work of one of the most significant Valencian composers of recent decades. Emilio Calandín Hernández (Valencia, 1958) is a musician with a long artistic career and is, without a doubt, a reference in the contemporary Spanish musical field.

The works for solo piano collected in PIANO SOUNDS cover a temporary arc of almost 40 years of production. From his early Prelude of 1983 to the most recent score in his catalog, Fuga sobre el nom de Francisco Llácer Pla (2020), you can see the technical and aesthetic evolution of this composer, as well as the different stimuli that they have motivated very different works from each other. In all of them there is a real interest in enriching the current piano creation.

This project, in addition to showing the contribution of Emilio Calandín to the Valencian piano creation, brings together three performers who, although from different generations, have a wide and proven international artistic career. The pianists Bartomeu Jaume (Llucmajor, Mallorca, 1957), Diego Fernández Magdaleno (Medina de Rioseco, Valladolid, 1971) and Antonio Morant Albelda (Valencia, 1991) approach this essential piano integral with absolute interpretive solvency, contributing to a better understanding of the latter. forty years of contemporary Valencian pianism.

It should be noted that the compositions performed by Bartomeu Jaume —Voci del fiume and Acróstico— and by Diego Fernández Magdaleno —Preludi— were recorded in concert. So these are historical recordings that have been rescued for the release of this album. The rest of the compositions, performed by the young Valencian pianist Antonio Morant Albelda, have been recorded in the Electroacoustics Laboratory of the Conservatory of Valencia during the month of November 2020.
