Twelve years ago, in the very early days of Lillerne, I linked up with a good friend of mine in Kansas City to work on what would become the label’s twelfth release. Norrit’s “I Wasn’t Ready” backed an A side of woozy, ecstatic remixes and clubby original tracks with a ghostly 15 minutes of patient and deliberately quiet music. This cassette and its dichotomous pairing had a big impact on me and how I think about selecting, archiving, and even listening to music. Tito Fuego returns to Lillerne as Mister Water Wet with another complex and fascinating collection of tunes. “Compost” highlights some of the earliest material from this particular project’s archives. There’s an organic depth and thoughtfully “alive” nature to these tracks, and every sample or fragment herein stands thoroughly on its own as much as it does within the sum. Deep, considerate works suitable for yet another fall season on the farm.
