Every now and then I get a chance here on the Soul-Patrol Newsletter I get a chance to do something that before the internet existed, that I could only do with a few close friends. And that is to turn someone on to some music that I find to be totally different than anything that has come before it. The new release by Booboo Davis called "Drew, Missisippi" is such an album. One of the things about today's current music scene is that it is one of division. The divisions in music are infact so large that in many cases it in fact separates people from each other. What we have with the album "Drew, Missisippi" is a piece of art that has the potential to actually reverse that trend. This is music that attempts to bring together several different styles of music that the "conventional wisdom" says can't really be brought together. Booboo Davis ignores the conventional wisdow and suceeds at doing what was previously thought to be impossible. And the best news of all is that we actually are in dire need of this album. "Blues" and "Hip Hop" are two styles that on the surface have little in common. They both play to completely different audiences. However they both have the same "root". Booboo Davis goes straight to that "root" and comes up with an end result that is quite funky and enjoyable. He isn't the first to try this. However in my opinion he is the first to succeed!!
