This was a slightly unusual but logical recording by New Orleans altoist Captain John Handy. Rather than play in the usual New Orleans jazz setting, Handy was teamed with swing all-stars (including trumpeter Doc Cheatham, trombonist Benny Morton and pianist Claude Hopkins) on slightly more "modern" material than usual (such as "Perdido," "I Would Do Anything For You" and "One O'Clock Jump"). To no one's surprise, the underrated and always heated altoist has little difficulty swinging up a storm. An LP well worth searching for, which RCA will hopefully rediscover and make available on CD.Title: Introducing Cap'n John Handy and His Wild Sax From Down Home
