What can I say? This is Earl! Even in his 80s he still plays extremely well and that comes from decades of being the world's foremost banjo player. These tunes take me back to a better time and Earl continues to arrange and develop music with a 5-string mastery that many have tried to emulate but no one has duplicated. His backup band is tight and compliments him well. I don't think enough credit has been given to Gary Scruggs over the years. He is the driving force behind Earl's later years in performance, a true gentleman, and a great musician. You can feel his touch on this recording. We don't know how long Earl will be with us but a lot of us will buy anything Earl produces. This recording is much more than just another Earl disc. He has always believed the banjo has scope way beyond Foggy Mountain Breakdown and traditional bluegrass music and his adapting the banjo to rock and roll type music is a very good demonstration of this. -- Michael S.
