Rick James protégés Process & the Doo Rags only hung around the music scene long enough to cut Too Sharp, an album filled equally with dancers and slow jams. The uptempo numbers are all right, but Process (this refers to a once popular hairstyle worn by Black males that used lye concoctions to straighten the hair) and the Doo Rags (scarves used to protect the processed hair from dust, or to hide it when the process began kinking and discoloring) had more of a feel for ballads. Toward that end, "Daddy's Home" and "Thin Line Between Love & Hate" are two songs that can never be redone enough. Their rendition of "The Bells" has all the magic of Marvin Gaye's original production for Freddy Gorman and the Originals.
