Paar Linien. That can be translated from German as "a few lines", reflects Nicolas Stephan's attempt at writing to make autonomous, sometimes contradictory musical “lines” coexist within the same piece, and to keep the tension resulting from these contradictions to give birth to poetry, to “poly- music ”, of the“ polyrhythm ”of the“ polytonality ”, and music which is despite everything as popular as it is scholarly, and original.
The group was born from the meeting within Nicolas Stephan's surnatural Orchestra with Basile Naudet, and their desire to create a musical world of their own. This world would be the reflection of their respective worlds. An open-plan place where aesthetics wouldn't make sense. A place where the freedom to play would be total, and therefore the new constraints. This desire led to the creation of Paar Linien. Joined by Augustin Bette on drums, road and music friend of Basile Naudet from the magnificent trio "Where is Mr R", and Louis Freres on bass, a Belgian musician who gives the group much of its rock color. The music then becomes truly collective.
