When Tazina sings, whether it be jazz or her own earthy-acoustic styled songs, it is like a glimpse into her heart. You get the sense she has experienced, personally, each song's story. She can sing with extreme vocal power and also the sweetness of a lullaby. Her voice has an honesty and vulnerability that makes it hard not to be moved. She creates an intimacy that draws you in to her world of storytelling.
In her own words: "I don't think I fit into any particular style. What's important to me is that a song moves me and, whatever I sing, I simply hope that I leave even the tiniest impression on your heart."
Originally from Sydney and Hobart in Australia, Tazina lived in London and Hastings in England for the last thirteen years and has recently moved to the south of France. She has performed in jazz duos and bands in music venues in London, Hastings, Brighton, Rye, Lewes (UK), and in Sydney and Hobart (Australia), and at jazz festivals in Schleswig Holstein (Germany) and Whangarei (New Zealand).
Tazina has recorded two jazz albums. Her latest, "Pieces of Dreams" released in 2018, is a studio recording with just voice and piano. It's a collection of jazz and contemporary ballads and has an intimate and gentle feel.
Her first jazz album, "Tazina in concert - Watch What Happens", is the recording of a live performance with a four-piece band. It consists of well known jazz standards plus one of her originals "The Sublime". The CD is currently only available in physical format but will soon be released digitally. A video was taken of the concert and, while more a simple record of the event than a professional video, in the lead-up to the album's digital release Tazina will be publishing for the first time videos of some of the songs.
Distinct from when she sings jazz songs, when performing her original songs Tazina accompanies herself on acoustic guitar and is often joined by a cellist and trumpet player.
