Living in a single-wide trailer along that lonesome stretch of sonic highway between the Drive-by Truckers and JJ Cale, Big Jim Brown and The SpeedKings deliver soul-satisfying guitar-based alt-country roots rock. Lead guitarist and singer/songwriter Jim Brown draws on years of experience to craft a polished yet gritty sound, with songs that tell stories (sometimes true) of characters living on the fringe.
Jim Brown previously lived in New Orleans and led his first band, Sweet Pea's Revenge, from Monaco Bob's Touchdown Lounge (bad) to Tipitina's to House of Blues to Jazz Fest (good). The band put out 5 CDs over a 7 year period and toured the Southeast and Western US, playing much-loved haunts like Judge Roy Bean's in Fairhope as well as top clubs like The Buffalo Rose in Colorado and The El Ray Theatre in Albuquerque NM. They opened for national acts like Gregg Allman, Delbert McClinton and Government Mule.
Based in Pensacola, FL, the SpeedKings are Rodney Dodd (bass), Chris Cantin (drums), and Robert Heeke (guitar). With the release of the new CD, the band looks forward to instant fame and fortune...or maybe just a little bit of fun.
