There are few albums I adore more in this world than Poems in the Midnight. Perhaps it's Carmen's wonderfully melancholy vocals. Or perhaps it's the depressingly beautiful rendition of the traditional slave-era folk song, "Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child". Or perhaps it's the gorgeous make-up job on the cover. (I WANT that eye liner.) Either way, I've adored this album for longer than I can even remember.

Granted, Carmen is best known for her 70s, psych rock but in my mind, I automatically attach her name to the deep, hauntingly lingering sound of the 60s. I can listen to this over & over again, peeps. Certainly give this a try even if you don't care for Carmen Maki & Oz's work or even if you simply appreciate the late 60s folk sound from Japan. This album was ripped from the 1991 Sensho series re-releases on CD.
