Pianist Erik Vermeulen belongs to the generation of Peter Hertmans, Bert Joris, Kurt Van Herck and Frank Vaganée. Over the years, he has performed in various trio set-ups (Hein Van de Geyn & Dré Pallemaerts, Sal La Rocca & Jan de Haas, Manolo Cabras & Marek Patrman), played with Jacques Pelzer, Steve Houben, Toots Thielemans and Joe Lovano, but most of all he has wanted to create his own music.

As leader he has released a huge number of albums on our label and his latest album “Live Chroma” (W.E.R.F.075, 2009) was awarded the prestigious Klara Muziekprijs in the ‘Jazz’ category.

He also collaborates very closely with alto saxophonist Ben Sluijs. Not only was Vermeulen a member of Sluijs’ quartet, together they also released the dazzling album ‘Stones’ (Jazz’halo, 2001, re-released this year on the W.E.R.F. label).

At Jazz Brugge 2010 the duo presented ‘Parity’, the long awaited sequel to this successful album. The result is yet another musical masterpiece, filled with intimate pieces from both musicians’ hands that take the listener by the hand from the very first note.
