A group of outstanding Polish jazzmen will appear on the recently announced album Wodecki Jazz'70 - Dialogi, combining archival recordings of Zbigniew Wodecki's compositions and their contemporary interpretations. The premiere is on June 4.
This unusual musical project shows the jazz of the 70s, when Zbigniew Wodecki composed and played with his extravagant voice, but most of all he played the violin with the orchestras of Jerzy Milian or Andrzej Trzaskowski, and he recorded his original works on Polish Radio. The album shows a unique relationship between the materials found in the archives and the contemporary voice of Polish jazz.
The materials from the past were made available under license by the Archives of Polish Radio, and the modern ones were created during the recording session in December 2020 and early 2021. Guests invited to the project, incl. Henryk Miśkiewicz, Leszek Możdżer, Marek Napiórkowski, Michał Tokaj, Michał Barański and Paweł Dobrowolski chose one of Zbigniew Wodecki's pieces for their original arrangement. In 2021, i.e. four years after the death of Zbigniew Wodecki, the artist's work turns out to be invariably fresh and inspiring, especially the part of it that only now becomes more widely known.
The album will be released on June 4, the day of the inauguration of the Wodecki Twist Festival. Jacek Gawłowski worked on remastering and the whole sound. Musical direction: Michał Tokaj. The graphics were created by Krzysztof Kuki Iwański. Archival compositions and performances: Zbigniew Wodecki. Vocal band: Alibabki.
