Mope City - Within The Walls (2021) Hi-Res

There are groups which have an unclassifiable and indefinable musical style. This is particularly the case for Mope City which is an Australian quartet and which fascinates for its original and spectral music, which can be found on their new album entitled Within The Walls.

Amaya Lang, Matt Neville, Nick Johnson and Shaun Donovan reconnect the guitars and smoky rhythms to take us back to the afterlife. Between indie rock slacker, psychedelic rock, art-rock and detached post-punk, Mope City turns us upside down with lethargic and comatose tracks such as "Don't Understand The Shorthand" or even "Rocket Surgery" and "Trapped" As A Child ”where the vocal duo Lang / Neville feels possessed by alienating us in the best possible way.

Provoking this feeling of confinement, as the title of the opus attests, Mope City is remarkable for its deliberately confused and unstructured compositions which are heard on "A Mannequin Head Smiled (A Mannequin Head Smile)" or on " Umbilichord ”and“ Figure In My Peripheral ”. The Australian group continues to develop its share of mysteries with "Delineate & Dilate" and "When X Means Y" which will speak of their unparalleled originality. Once again, with Within The Walls, Mope City remains unclassifiable.
