Jaki Byard - Piano
Jaki Byard has to be considered one of the most underrated jazz pianists of all time. Very few other keyboardists have mastered as many styles as he has and yet Byard generally sounds like himself. This solo piano CD finds Byard revisiting his lengthy "Family Suite," doing a three-song Thelonious Monk medley, showing respect for the early stride pianists on "Tribute to the Ticklers" and uplifting a pair of standards. an excellent outing, one of Jaki Byard's few recordings in the 1990s. ~Scott Yanow
