Chic - Live At The Budokan (2013)

Unfortunately, this concert was the last live performance of Edwards before his death, and for this reason Budokan would have been historically important, even if Chic had performed mediocre that night. But this disk is far from mediocre. Rogers and Edwards lead an excellent band, which includes, among others, singers Silver Logan Sharp and Jill Jones, as well as drummer Omar Hakim - and sparks fly when this Chic line-up turns its attention to hits of the late 70s, such as: "Good Times", "Le Freak", "Dance Dance Dance" and "I Want Your Love". Listeners will notice that these songs are tougher on stage than in the studio, and the same thing happens with Sister Sledge's classic songs 'He's the Greatest Dancer' and 'We Are Family'. An interesting surprise comes when Chic moves into rock territory and joins forces with Steve Winwood and Guns N 'Roses guitarist Slash to create "Stone Free" by Jimi Hendrix. When Rogers was preparing to release Live at the Budokan on his label Sumthing Else, he decided not to add any overlays or smooth out any sharp corners. Obviously, he made the right decision.
