Violinist, multi-instrumentalist and composer Ceren Türkmenoğlu studied violin performance in Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory and Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig. She worked in the Ankara State Opera and Ballet Orchestra and then the Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra until she moved to the United States in 2017 to attain her master's degree in Boston, where she also worked as a member of prominent orchestras, including the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra.
In Boston, Ceren had collaborations with the Silk Road Ensemble, founded by Yo-Yo Ma. She participated in significant musical events such as the Arts First Festival of Harvard University and performed alongside the members of the Silk Road Ensemble.
Ceren received the project award of The Boston Foundation two years in a row with her project "Music from Where the Sun Rises", in which she examines Turkish Classical Music from a historical perspective. She was invited to perform in notable institutions such as the Harvard University, MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), TUFTS University and Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
Another project of the artist, "Strings from Around the World" studies the traditional music of different cultures through the lens of their traditional string instruments. She made a research trip to the Tuva Republic in Central Asia in 2018 where she also performed alongside the Tyva Ensemble in the Tyva National Theater. She later presented her research in various ethnomusicology conferences.
Returning to Turkey in 2020, Türkmenoğlu resumes her position in the Ankara Opera and Ballet Orchestra and continues working on her music. Her debut album “Mâî”, which will be released in July 2021, consists of her compositions and arrangements.
