Things did not look good for Samiam following its recording of You Are Freaking Me Out in 1996. The hard-to-define pop punk, emocore band had failed to satisfy Atlantic Records, both with sales of its previous record Clumsy and the sound of its next album. So, for two years, Atlantic refused to release the album or sell it to the band. Samiam finally bought the rights to it, and sold the record to the indie label Ignition, which released it in 1998 and promptly went bankrupt. Yet fans that had been starved for four years eagerly embraced this fantastic album, and You Are Freaking Me Out further solidified the band's reputation as indie rock stalwarts. The stirring single "She Found You" somehow managed to create a buzz on mainstream radio, while the intense, emotional lyrics and blend of hardcore and melody announced loudly that Samiam was back.
