“The writing of 'Bela Senão Sem' is quite traditional in terms of alternating written moments with improvised moments, in the form of instrumental solos accompanied or not by traditional written 'backgrounds'”, explains João Paulo Esteves da Silva. Accustomed to traversing the bridge linking the writing of language and the writing of music, he states that “music and language are always present, even when one of them seems to be absent. A language phrase will always need a certain music, an intonation to make sense, and a musical phrase, no matter how pure, never fails to bear the marks of that language that hid itself in the purification process. They are sometimes small details, certain accents, phrasing, breaths that betray the mother tongue (or not) of the musician. In my case, it doesn't hurt to admit the melodies I invent as, almost always, songs without words”.
